STEP 5: Adhering Tiles __ If you are using tile, chances are that it's in a setting where moisture is a given__kitchen, bath, entryway and so on. Make sure you use a waterproof adhesive. You can use a premixed adhesive or a mortar, but if you choose the latter, make sure it's a thin_set variety. (Thick_bed mortars require some practice and skill at smoothing to get the tiles to sit flat, and the additional mortar isn't necessary for a watertight finish.)
Allow the paste to set for five minutes, and then gently wipe it away with a soft_bristle brush or nylon pad. Apply a dab of brass polish or non_gel toothpaste to a clean cloth if the scratches remain. Rub the tile with the cloth using circular motions; then rinse. Reapply the toothpaste, brass polish or scouring paste as necessary until the whole scratch or all the scratches have disappeared.
